Updated 13.3.2007: Asked yesterday about the controversy, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan refused to confirm whether he had been quoted accurately by the newspaper.

‘I do not have anything to say right now,’ he said. (Associated Press).

*******************************************************************************
(Read inside: he calls us liars, cheat and a threat to national unity; he says we are uncompromising, not tolerant and can create civil war – taken from Elizabeth Wong’s blog).

That’s because he doesn’t know the power of women bloggers. Read clemfour and encircle by 6. Relish the poster by rikey.

And here’s an open letter to the “dimwit” :

Dear Mr. Adnan;

Your latest comment on Chinese daily Sin Chew is highly demeaning, for someone who holds the post of Tourism Minister.Your accusation that we, women bloggers are liars, cannot come at a more inappropriate time like this. The day you said this was International Women’s Day. If you don’t know what this day means to women all over the world, kindly look up this website.

Your second accusation – that we don’t like national unity – is not only slanderous but defamatory – because it is short of saying that we are a threat to national security. (pix: virtual malaysia)

It is short of saying that we are liable for treason.

As tourism minister, do you realise how many women bloggers actually blog about their travel overseas? Nila Tanzil is a case in point. And if you live up to your image of being a blogger + woman hater, I don’t see why women should blog nice things about you or your country.

One liar (or two) doesnt make all of us liars. Your generalisation has gone a bit too far. You are NOT fit to be Tourism Minister with this attitude. You are bias, rude, patronising and stupid.

But going by your analogy – of one makes all – I don’t blame foreigners for thinking that all of us are stupid or Malaysia bodoh.

You have set a bad example and I am not surprise if Malaysia fails in its Visit Malaysia 2007 project. With a Tourism Minister of your stature, it is sure to be a disaster.

Not all blogs are political. Millions, thousands are about life, food and travel. It is best you and your ministry court this group of human beings than declaring war with all and sundry.

You have no idea how powerful women are. They dont say ‘the hands that rock the cradle, rock the world’ for nothing. They also dont say “syurga di bawah tapak kaki ibu’ (heaven beneath your mother’s feet) for fun.

It’s just that some of us think you are too trivial or a dimwit to take notice of. But when we do make up our minds; you will have a hard time.

But do get this into your head. Women these days are different. We don’t merely sit around looking pretty. We work, take care of the family, write, blog, ask questions, analyse, create, invent, and a million other things. But there’s one thing we won’t do. We will not take this crap from you.

You talk about Malaysia coming a long way to achieve its 50 years independence.

We, too, have come a long way (it’s the 97th IWD this year), to know that the likes of you have no place in the kind of Malaysia we have envisioned for ourselves.

****************************************************************************

Got this from Elizabeth Wong’s blog:

This is not a joke.

Malaysian Minister for Tourism, Tengku Adnan was reported by Sin Chew (9 March 07, Early Evening edition pp 5) to have said the following

(non-authoritative translation from Chinese to English, please feel free to improve/correct this, Mr J and Mr Tuna.):-

“Bloggers are liars. They use all sort of ways to cheat others. From what I know, out of 10,000 unemployed bloggers, 8,000 are women.“Bloggers like to spread rumours, they don’t like national unity. Today our country has achievements because we are tolerant and compromising. Otherwise we will have civil war.“Malays will kill Chinese, Chinese will kill Malays, Indians will kill everybody else.”He asked people not to believe bloggers and gamble away Malaysia’s future because 50 years of Merdeka (Independence) takes a lot to achieve it.“We have to show to the people our positive attitude. If the world learns from us, there will peace and no civil war.

He said this in reaction to an Indonesian blogger/tv journalist, Nila Tanzil, who didn’t have many nice things to write about Malaysian bureaucracy while she was here shooting a travel show. But at least she was polite about in her blog. Her colleague was more honest.

Mr Minister. Did you realise Thursday was a quasi-sacred day for feminists and women’s rights activists? A most inappropriate time to be going around calling women liars, anti-national unity etc. etc.

And to be going after Nila when her partner was killed in the Yogya Garuda tragedy only yesterday? Don’t you even have a heart? Weren’t you taught manners and etiquette in school or at home?

Oh. I forgot. Umno (cut to scene:- unsheathe keris, wave in the air).

The end.

Updated:
Bloggers who normally write in Chinese caught wind of this and are up-in-arms.

See Smoothriver, and JerryWho has also translated the news article in full here, but not including Tengku Adnan’s rant about Bumitera in the last few paras.)

Hmmm…curious as to what educational level this Tugu Assnut has. But then again, never mind, for even an Oxford graduate in the M’sian surreal context can simply double as a street demagogue and yet be regarded as a national hero!

What type of Min.Of Tourism is Tengku Adnan is??
One blogger maybe lying…and he said all bloggers are liars!!
Using such harsh words seems to put him in a guilty conscience path to be afraid bloggers expose more truths than lies?
Using his line…if one minister found guilty of corruptions..can we say all ministers are corrupted? Can we say all ministers are capable to kill or bomb people to pieces? Can we say all Mintri Besar offer bribes to in votes?

Was he trying to show the world how stupid boleh minister can be? People would expect to see a country full of idiots when they visit. To avoid disappointing tourists, all guided tours must have a tour to his office!

I take it as an indirect complement. This little group of bloggers, mostly writing anonymously on the Internet is getting some serious attention from the powerful Establishment.

10,000 unemployed bloggers ? Hahaha…..I believe quite a number of bloggers are not 9 to 5 office employed e.g. . there are retirees, homemakers and writers, but I would definitely not call them unemployed.
Not to forget, the majority of bloggers actually don’t write about politics at all. A lot of Malaysian blogs write on cooking, children, hobbies, life in general, sharing personal experiences.

How did that fool get to be a Minister ?

  25. susanloone says:

yes truly a dimwit, dumwit…whatever…that’s why i put his photo there for all the world to see 😦

  26. lucia says:

kittykat, yes i agree majority of bloggers don’t write about politics. we have less socio-political bloggers than those so called lifestyle bloggers (who write personal stuffs). but the thing is since these lifestyle bloggers seldom talk about politics, the gomen seldom take note of them but the few socio political bloggers talks a lot on politics, thus the gomen notice them.

yes most bloggers are employed. if they are not employed and blog full time means they are pro blogger and earn via blogging. i bet at the recent bloggers gathering if you were to ask all the over 100 participants, most of them will say they are employed… except a few old uncles and aunties maybe who had retired. 🙂

ah witsO…That I have no complete info and leave that to others to teach me. Never too old to learn. Bless you.
But I hear rumours he is no Tengku. Nice if we can find facts and exposed him…..insulting our beloved Susan Loone…..hahhahaha

  49. wits0 says:

Off the cuff, my living experience actually says that men with fleshy sensual lips(like red ones!) are indeed ball carriers and wimps who run at the very first sign of personal danger….incidentally I do have a copy of a physiognomy book somewhere in my library collection too.

My experience also says that such wimps do love being rewarded for their cowardice with false citation of courage – under the name of “the call of duty”! And they are also the most perniciously snobbish because of position.

  50. monsterball says:

So you see witsO…you through your expriences and me monsterball …through reading and researches and we both come to the same conclusions. Hi Susan…you have two fortune tellers here in your blog..hahahahaha
If we both go to Bangkok and open our fotune teller stall..we may give some monks there a run for the money in forutne telling business. Big business you know. Want to be our financier? 100% make money…..hahahahah

  51. susan loone says:

monsterball and wits0…come to bkk…and do your fortune telling lah…but first read my fortune…tell me what knind of face i have???

  52. monsterball says:

The way you write your above message shows you are nervous to let others know your most precious secrets…as they are none of other people’s business. Very true and rightly so. You are a kind smart soul …and a true Malaysian.
All of us have our own secrets and weaknesses. No one judge us on that as long as we do not hurt others for selfish reasons. BUT THIS IDIOT ADNAN DO!!! HE IS JUDGING 10000 BLOGGERS.
So my dear Susan…no need to tell your fortune lah. It’s all written in the stars…..very natural….cry….happy…..difficult….then smooth as a breeze….natural life. Enjoy it!!
What say you oh wise witsO…..hahahahahaha

  53. monsterball says:

Susan…Fortune telling are no magicians. How to tell your face…when you do not put it out clearly for all to see? Anyway…you cannot hide your face from monsterball too long. We will meet soon.
And betwen friends that are kind souls…no matter how our faces maybe looking bad for jealous eyes to see ….we will love and respect each other like a family of good Malaysians getting to know each other better.

  54. wits0 says:

The terse “witless one”, not used to wearing tall hats, says Susan has the face of one with a mission. One which she pursue with a passion but that has not underminded her inherent sense of humour and open mindedness.

The famous song, “Amazing Grace” was written for such people.

  55. monsterball says:

I think witsO and I are exposing we are carrying Susan’s balls…literally speaking …by being so nice to her.
Usually such fortune tellers are thrown with bad ages and run like hell.
So I want to break partnership with witsO.
    To each his own….hahahaha
“Amazing Grace” was basicaly written for people singing t the graveyards!!
But my daughter did use that Christian prayer…not song witsO as part of her wedding day ceremony. It is trully a soulful nice Christian RELIGIOUS song.

  56. wits0 says:

    I didn’t know Susan has (physical)balls! 😀

I don’t know why it has to be used/regarded for the graveyards. Here’s how it began : http://tigerhawk.blogspot.com/2007/02/see-amazing-grace.html

Monsterball, Susan is a RC, a hymn therefore isn’t alien.

  57. monsterball says:

Read my message care on balls matter witsO. I said literally speaking….not physical.

  58. monsterball says:

Are we on a debate on ‘amazing grace” and Susan’s gender status?
If so..identifying yourself. No use .if you turn out tio be 21 and I am 68 or you are from Watosi and I am from Malaysia. Like to debate? Lets open up….you start first…age….sex…from where…what religion are you from.

  59. monsterball says:

hi witsO…Call off the debate. Let others put out some comments on the real subject…idiotic Adnan.
But like you to know….I am 69 years old….male malaysian …a buddhist…since I did ask for yours and not a gentleman….if I do not reveal mine.

  60. wits0 says:

Indeed, monsterball, why waste energy on things of little importance. The object of interest here is always on that personality who at 56 is still imbecilic and overbearing on account of his worldly position and have overstepped the limit of his moral and civil authority in his defamatory statements against many people. Can he claim something along the line of the “executive priviledge” sort? I think he and his ilks are facing a different century than the last one…and jolly good too. A gleam of light at the end of the dark tunnel which is otherwise completely Bodohland.

  61. elviza says:

    Sister,

“You are NOT fit to be Tourism Minister with this attitude. You are bias, rude, patronising and stupid”

How aptly you described him and I agree in its entirety.

  62. monsterball says:

Susan….Our Malaysians has just won the All England Men’s Doubles after 25 years. At least something for everyone to be happy about.
Once happiness faded away……continue your finest insults back to this trully idiotic minister.
Thought all of you like to know and sorry if I have disrupted your flow of thoughts on this clown of the year….our Min.Of Touristism. How on earth tourists will feel safe to come to Malaysia with such an idiot in charge of the ministry beats me….especially with so many terrorists of all types distubing the whole world’s peace and happiness. Surely….this is a time to get a person with police or military experiences to fill in that post ….for diplomacy and experiences. This idiot has none of such qualifications.
I wonder that kris loving Minister of Education is a sincere bloke. Judging from latest report …no change and improvements in school text books or teachers…..this will be another bullshit stuffs by UMNO to the people of Malaysia. Race and religion plus false readings of true Malaysian history and ignoring to focus good English by replacing those that cannot teach in English languages will be a continous cover up to make Malays not able to speak excellent English….ongoing….and as if the Bahasa is all mighty towards a Vision 2020 SUCCESS. Look at how some malays seems to criticise others who cannot read and write bahasa….as if these are not true Malaysians. Most other races can SPEAK well bahasa….that’s enough in any countr….no need to read and write.
Yet when come to the English language…it is the other races that makes the government proud of achieving their goals and let down by their own race..why?? Ask the new Min of Education. He is not taking the matter serious at all.

I am trying so hard to imagine a river made out of bamboo…….cannot compute. Just like when I was studying in a missionary school….each time they end the prayer ‘In the name of our father…the son and the holy ghost” I laughed…as I was taught they are not three but one.
How on earth those three are not three when they are distinctively different. I had to wash toilets so many times and threatened to be in hell by my most pious teacher. BLESS HIM.

Just wanted to pass comment on your linking to my blog on Windows Live Spaces and it’s content there-in. Firstly, let me say that dispite my complaints of the irrepressive humidty and cab drivers that don’t seem to know where they are going, I love Malaysia. So much so that at the end of the F1 Season last year, three of us spent a fortnight there and had a wonderful time. We are looking forward to returning next week for the F1 Test and Race at the Sepang International Circuit.

I, like you, believe in free speech and the right to say what one thinks on a blog without fear of persecution. My blog consists of my own personal thoughts, observations and ramblings and in no way should be taken as offensive. My blog was primarily created for my friends and family to keep updated on my travels through out the season.

Whilst I am unsure of the reasons why my blog was linked to in the first place, I am sure it was for all good intentions. However, whilst understanding that the internet is not a private domain and anything on it is public access, it would have been good manners to ask before linking to my blog with an explaination of it’s use.

I wish you all the very best of success in your campaigns and keep up the great work that you do.

  93. susan loone says:

    hi The Ox;
thanks for reading me. and i am sorry i did not write to you before linking your post. i did that with hundreds of blogs, and no one came back to say it was bad manners, as i provided the link and acknowledgement, and thus, help promote their blogs and their content, as well. others do that to me as well, and i have never thought of them as being ill-mannered. it would be different if you wrote a disclaimer saying: please do not republish this article without consent of the author.

nevertheless, i am really sorry if my actions had offended you. please accept my apologies.

we’re having a bit of a tussle here between the tourism minister and bloggers. on international women’s day, he took a swipe at women bloggers calling us all liars and cheat and threat to national security. your posting was meant in a good way to show him what tourists thought of Malaysia, a tourist blogger as well, your post sounded interesting to me, and surely for my readers too. so i linked it. blogs like yours will help Malaysia do better in the tourism field, i am sure.

hope now, you don’t mind that i have taken advantage of your post. thanks for your good wishes and hope you continue to love and visit Malaysia, and blog about us as well.

feel free to tell me what you think 😉

hi The OX….Have a pleasant stay in Malaysia. Some of our cab drivers are trully crooks. But I think the people concern are doing the best to get rid of them .Today the government published some 23 cabs numbers they want to cancel the licences and ask them to come forward to surrender their license or get arrested.
    All the best Ox.

Tengku Adnan and his cohorts are just mental bankrupts. They are often seen engaged in frivlous and trivial discourse and heated exchanges in Parliament. They are just meat-heads who do not deserve my respect at all.

I am most surprised that our Badawi had chosen him to be the Secretary General of UMNO. Does not UMNO have better guys than TA?

In politics, it is so important to see and understand the signs of times. Despite the dismal performance of BN, the leader has yet to understand and assimilate the causes of their miserable and unprecedented performance in the 12th General Election.

The public must be made aware of such characters in the next General Election so that the electorate will chuck them out into the limbo once and for all.

I am also quite surprised that Dato Sharizat has been appointed as Senior Advisor, of ministerial rank, I guess, taking charge of social development, a portfolio that is likely to crash with Dato Ng Yen Yen. Why waste the taxpayer money this way? There are many schools, social organisations and children homes that need money.

Another surprise is bringing back Mike Tyson who has been written off long time ago in the minds of the Malaysian public for causing such a bad reputaton for Malaysia in an attempt to bring in unexplained money into Australia and for pretending to be ignorant of the English Language!.

The message of Malaysians is loud and clear.

    We want:

    1) A clean and efficient Government who cares for all its citizens regardless of their racial and religious backgdround;
    2) A transparent Government who is accountable to the Malaysian publics for all its revenues and expenditure.
    3) We want fairness, justice and equal opportunities in employment, education and participation in all government-linked companies.
    4) A Government that upholds the constitutional rights of her people of Malaysia,
    5) Lastly we do not want a Government that is corrupt.
    6) We want a trustworthy and credible judiciary.
    7) To eradicate the NEP and NDP and start to think of doing justice to all the people of Malaysia.
    8) To discourage local employers fro engaging foreign labourers.
    9) Let all relgious organisations be given land for places of worshop and cementery.
    10) Let the Government of the day be prudent in using the public money.
    11) Cut down defence budget and increase budget for health. education and welfare.

Unless you guys in BN think modern, you will be wiped out in no time.

    Good luck to the BNers.

  126. billauchris says:

I am most astonished to read that the newly appointed Minister in charge of Tourism is going to cut off her working relationship with those States that are controlled by the Pakatan Rakyat. Does she realise that most of the places of interest are situated in Penang, Kedah, Perak and Selangor.
How is Malaysia going to attract tourists from overseas when we have such a myopic minister.

When she was the Minister of Sports, she tried to build a sport complex in England – an attempt to drain money from Malaysia to overseas. This I shall describe as one the most irresponsible disservice ever perpetrated against the national economy. She tried to fool the matured Malaysians like most of the UMNOputric Ministers who could not care too hoods about Malaysia so long as what they did takes good care of their purses and pockets.

Despite all these fiascos, the leadership could not be bothered. They behave as if they are running for lost time – yes very short time especially when the old wells are going to run dry in another 3 decades. So they are making hays during the sunshine.

On the other hand, one of the Pakatan Rakyat’s leader annuounced that PR is going to take over the Government in 6 months time! I just wonder whether that leader is really serious about his utterance.

Many of the MPs from DAP, PAS and PKR are still harbouring the NEP mentality and they are no less racialistic than the BN politics. My only advice to the tyros in PR is never volunteer information when you do not mean what you say. Days are gone when sensationalism dominated the media. We want action and results and not rthetorics.

So if you have any plans for the rakyat in the near future, keep it confidential, thrash them out among your committees and then implement them.

I look forward to the day when PR takes over the Malaysian Government not six months but say 12 months.

    Best of luck.

  127. billauchris says:

Another sensational news that hit the road last few days in Selangor was the intended dissolution of BALKIS – an association whose membership comprised exclusively wives of Selangor State Assemblymen and Members of Parliament and the transfer of RM9.9 million to another association that caters for wives of ministers and deputy ministers known as BAKTI.

At the material time just before the general election on 8 March 2008, the President of BALKIS was the wife of the dethroned Menteri Besar of Selangor, Zahrah Kechik. Her action amounted to a criminal breach of trust according to the views of the Bar Council of Malaysia.

According to report BALKIS was registered under the Societies Act with the purpose of helping underprivileged groups in the State of Selangor besides providing shelter for wayward young women.

The objectives of BALKIS were noble but the manner in which the dubious actions were taken by its EXCO under the aegis of Zaharah were most incomprehensible. It spells a possibility of
    foul play.

I just wonder what bloody secret business relationship the dethroned MB had in BALKIS. He was certainly not a member nor an officer of the said organisation. So, why can’t he just keep his mouth shut and let the EXCO of BALKIS answer for their actions. He talked as if BALKIS was owned by him. The manner in which he uttered his public statements in defence of BALKIS was most disgusting and unacceptable. His stunt exposed the likelihood of his intimated association with the said organisation.

The dethroned MB accused the Selangor State Government of embarking on a smear campaign. But he did not really think through the matter before he uttered his big mouth which revealed the hanky panky business perpetrated by his wife.

I have had more than 3 decades experience as a reasonably active member of both charity and service organisations. The money belongs to the public; as such, any action to transfer out its entire fund to another association without sound reason was unbecoming and if done mala fide could constitute a misfeasance that might amount to a criminal breach of trust.

The reason given by Zahrah was most flimsical and frivolous. Her assumed fear was greatly flawed and unsatisfactory.

Now that the matter had come out into the public domain, any attempt to conceal and sweep it under the carpet is immoral and highly unethical. To protect the public fund, the ROS must hold in suspense the application to dissolve the association pending investigation to establish the illegal transfer of the RM9.9 million.

The President owes the public the following answers to the following questions:

    1) Who were the signatiories of the bank account?

    2) Was the notice to convene the EGM sufficient?

    3) How many members attended the said EGM?

    4) Was the agenda containing the intended dissolution of the association and transfer of its entire fund circulated to all the
    members?

    5) Who were the trustees and were they informed of the resolutions reached?

    6) What was the rationale to choose BAKTI as the transferee of the BALKIS fund?

    7) How was the RM9.9 million derived? Any records of donors and fund raising functions?

In my view, the alleged incident stinks and smacks of bad faith.
The Selangor Government should delve further into the matter and if necessary lodge a police report so that actions can be taken against those responsible.

Trust and confidence of the public must be restored. Perhaps, many of these so-called organisations are merely conduits to channel public funds.

I trust the dethroned MB stops responding to questions on behalf of the EXCO of BALKIS and let the law take its course.

First of all, we have to conduct a post-mortem to determine if the malingsia Tourism-Minister is a man or a woman. As we all knew, malaysian are alot confusing which the world knew best, especially with their current brand of rojak-parties fighting against each other while their citizens being a dumb-dumb spectators.
I would rather described in quoting their minister saying, if Malays kill chinese than chinese kill malays which in obvious was done this way. Next indians won’t killed all, much so as malays did and likely o do so. Once samyvellu german-helmut is removed, the indians will celebrate deepavali with greta ease than killing as described by the retarded tourism-minister.

Literal sense, they pretend to be proud over just a few pounds, otherwise they won’t as they have already harvested some roots in other countries for a back-door. If they denied, than that will crown them the biggests liars. As for malay-ministers, they have nowhere to plant their next root as they are untrust-worthy, perhaps they can be in the land of camels and flying carpets.

In the the land of camels and flying carpets, people don’t think within that constrictive tradition. It’s somewhat different here.
